  • OEC Refresher - Wed., Nov. 11 @ Eaglecrest Lodge
  • November 14 - Lift Evacuation Refresher on the mountain
  • December 12 - Avalanche Refresher
  • February 6 & 7, 2010 - Ski With The Patrol Day
  • February 20-21 - Multi-agency avalanche workshop with Alaska Avalanche Center / Manuel Genswein (contact Peter.Flynn@gmail.com for more info)
  • On-going toboggan handling and scenario based skills training occurs over the winter based on volunteer sign-ups to the Google Calendar, and is scheduled accordingly. 
  • First Aid training will be offered with an Outdoor Emergency Care course in the spring.  Please contact miclow@gci.net if you are interested.

The National Ski Patrol "Outdoor Emergency Care" is a comprehensive 80-hour course available through the Juneau Ski Patrol.

Classes are generally offered in the spring.

Avalanche Level 1 Class

(TBA - offered as available)

This course introduces basic snow science with comprehensive presentations and lectures by the Southeast Alaska Avalanche Center, Eaglecrest's Snow Safety Director, and the Juneau Ski Patrol Avalanche Committee.

Instructor Development

The Mentoring Steering Group (Division Directors & Chris Ross) have produced an Alaska Division INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT PLAN and an Alaska Division INSTRUCTOR APPLICATION  FORM.

Purpose:

  • Create instructors
  • Eliminate confusion, simplify the process
  • Overcome barriers
  • Reduce timelines
  • Quality assurance

Goals:

  • Division Leadership will understand and support the process
  • Simple systems, easy to use for mentors
  • Efficient and timely tracking/admin management

If you are interested in becoming an Instructor and/or a Mentor/Coach please complete an APPLICATION FORM and submit to Sean Edwards.  Sean will review all applications, then forward to Ron Dippold who will send to the Alaska Mentoring Steering Group to be entered into a data base. Dippold will also assist in matching Candidates with Mentors and with obtaining study and resource materials.

Those now in an Instructor Program and their Mentors may find the new
ALASKA DIVISION INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT PLAN form (with instructions) interesting and useful.

Fall 2009 CPR Refresher

Ron Dippold offers the following potential dates for American Red Cross CPR Refresher:

  • October 2 (Friday evening)  5:30 to 10:00 pm. 
  • October 11 (Sunday afternoon)  1:00 to 5:30 pm
  • October 13 (Tuesday evening)  5:30 to 10:00 pm.
     
    *  If any group of at least 4 people would like to take the course Ron will teach at mutual convenience, and the availability of the ARC training room.
     
    Cost will be $20.00 (most likely) or $25.00 (at the max.)  Assumes you have the book; if not there will be an additional $13.00.
     
    Ron will be out of Juneau from Nov.14  to Dec.6 
     
    Looks like the Oct 11 date will be Open at the ARC training room. If the October 2 or the October 13 date are needed for other ARC activities he will let you know ASAP
